The Future of the JVM

Charles Nutter

Charles Oliver Nutter has worked on JRuby and JVM languages for the past ten years, and for the past three at Red Hat. He wants to make the JVM the best and most open platform for language development now and into the future.

Since the release of Java 7, the JVM has been evolving at a rapid pace. New features for Java, JVM support for dynamic languages, improved tools and other improvements are breathing new life into this twenty-year-old platform. In this talk we'll explore some of the best features and how they'll change the future of the Java platform. We'll explore how you can start using these features -- and how they'll affect you even if you don't use them.

Finally, we'll discuss where
the JVM is going in Java 9 and beyond and how you can help it get
there.
